Shaolin Kung Fu

Shaolin Kung Fu, also called Shaolin Wushu or Shaolin quan, is one of the oldest, largest, and most famous styles of kung fu. It combines Ch'an philosophy and martial arts and originated and was developed in the Shaolin temple in Henan provinceChina during its 1500-year history. Popular sayings in Chinese folklore related to this practice include "All martial arts under heaven originated from Shaolin" indicating the influence of Shaolin kung fu among martial arts. The name Shaolin is also used as a brand for the so-called external styles of kung fu. Many styles in southern and northern China use the name Shaolin.

There are several styles attributed to Shaolin Martial Arts.

Far too many to delve into on this page, but if we could focus on some, the ones Shaolin Chess Focuses on is the "Imitative styles". These legendary styles take inspiration from animals the Chinese would encounter (or imagine) and embody their unique movements and
mannerisms. The Dragon, Tiger,  Monkey, White Crane, Snake Etc... are just some of these styles.

Each one is an incredibly specialized form of attack and defence...

Thus Shaolin Chess was birthed from these concepts.
